More About InView Tabs

The first tab has a special role in InView. This tab always shows a preview of the currently selected item. So whenever the currently selected item changes, the tab will be updated to match.

So what if you want to make a preview more permanent? For example, you may not want the current preview to be overridden when you select another file because you need to be able to refer back to it.

You can do this my clicking on the "Add as InView Tab" button . This moves the first tab’s contents into a new tab. New tabs created in this way are different from the first tab in that they are permanent. When the currently selected item changes, the first tab will be updated to show the preview for that item, but the permanent tabs will not be changed.

You can create any number of such permanent tabs. You may want to do this to compare the contents of two or more files. If you don’t need a permanent tab anymore, you can click on its "X" icon to close it .

Note that clicking on the first tab’s "X" icon does not close it, but only blanks it. This is because the first tab always has to exist to display the preview for the currently selected item.

You can also open a tab’s contents using its associated external application (for example, opening emails using Microsoft Outlook) by clicking on the item name in the tab’s header.
