Refining Search Results Using Filters

We’ve already seen one way to narrow a search (for cases when a search returns too many search results) by using additional search criteria.

Another way to narrow a search is by specifying the properties (instead of content) that each search result must have. For example, you can specify that each search result must have a last-modified date within a certain date range (within the last two weeks, for example). Or you can specify that you only want files with a specific file extension, for example the extension “doc” for Microsoft Word documents.

Filtering is done using the Filters pane. If the filters pane is hidden, you can show it by clicking once on the currently selected category button. Click again to hide the filters pane.

You must have some search results before you can filter them. After performing a search, you can specify the filter criteria that you want in the filters pane, and the search results that match these criteria will be shown under Filtered Results. As you change the filter criteria, Logicle Secretary will update Filtered Results dynamically to match the new criteria.
